Year 7 & Year 8 Netball

Year 7 & 8 netball vs. Harris City Academy Crystal Palace

Following the Christmas break our opening netball fixtures of 2019 came in the form of a double header year 7 & 8 match vs. Harris City Academy Crystal Palace. This would be a first league match for our year 7 team and for some players their first steps onto a court for a competitive fixture.

The year 8 team took to the court as the year 7s watched on for tips and tactics to use in their game which was to follow. The year 8 team were quick off the mark with some fantastic defensive play across the middle third. Kristodia Danso set the standard by turning over possession quickly from a number 50/50 chances. Supported by some excellent movement off the ball by Zoe Thorpe and Jessica Thorpe were able to create a number scoring opportunities in the first half. Shelby Sellars was quick to open the scoring with two well converted attempts under pressure from a towering GK. MHS continued to build momentum across the third and fourth quarter with Tia Barnes and Ella Purvey neutralising a number of HACP chances.  Shelby continued her fantastic form and scored all of the MHS points. The final whistle blew on a convincing 6-1 win for MHS. Well done girls for a fantastic win. A special mention must go to Shelby who was again voted player of the match by the opposition.

Following the impressive opening game the year 7 team eagerly took to the court. Davina Dennis started well in the centre position and worked hard to win possession. Breanna White linked well with Ruby Shema to create a few opportunities to move into shooting positions in the HACP shooting dee. These were thwarted by a strong HACP defence. The HACP Goal Shooter converted two well worked chances to take the lead going into the second half. After a quick review of our positions we started the second half much more positively. MHS had more possession of the ball and were able to prevent a number of HACP chances. However pressure kept building and two more goals were to follow for HACP. MHS increased the work rate but unfortunately unable to turn around the deficit. The final whistle blew and HACP won the match 4-0. It was a very impressive performance from our team and signs that there is huge potential for the team to build on. Well done Breanna for your player of the match performance.
