Transition to Secondary School
Moving from Year 6 to secondary school is an exciting milestone, but we understand it can also feel a little daunting. At Meridian High School, we are committed to making this transition as smooth and supportive as possible.
Our transition program helps students feel confident and prepared for the next stage of their education. From taster days to induction events and dedicated pastoral care, we ensure every child feels welcomed and supported.
We work closely with primary schools to understand each student’s strengths and needs, helping them settle into their new environment with ease. Parents and carers are also key partners in this journey, and we provide guidance and resources to support the whole family.
All students have the opportunity to attend two dedicated transition days where they experience life at Meridian, meet staff, explore the school, and take part in lessons. This helps them to begin understanding routines and expectations while building confidence in their new environment. For those who access our Pinnacle provision, we also run an additional day of tailored support to ensure the change feels manageable and reassuring for students and parents.
We also offer a summer school, where students can take part in sport, creative activities, and Thrive workshops. These sessions give them the chance to settle into their new surroundings, get to know fellow students, and build relationships with staff before September.
During their first week at Meridian, Year 7 students follow a carefully designed programme of activities. These sessions focus on understanding routines, developing independence, building positive friendships, and learning what it means to be a Meridian student.
Together, these opportunities mean that by the time lessons begin, our Year 7s feel confident, connect and ready to succeed- with strong friendships, familiarity with the school, and a clear understanding of expectations ready to present the best version of themselves for the year ahead.
