Option choices

Dbr 0391

It is time to make some important decisions about the curriculum your child studies in Year 10 and 11 which will need to reflect the GCSE subjects in which your child would like to be examined at the end of Key Stage 4.

We will allocate all students in Year 9 to a member of the Leadership Team so that you have the opportunity to discuss options and make informed choices. You will be able to book a timeslot to meet with this person via School Cloud. Students should also attend the appointment with their parent/carer so that they can agree their selections during the appointment.

We recognise this is a big decision for our students to make and we understand some might be unsure of what career they would like to pursue in the future. If they haven’t done so already, we do advise students use our careers platform Morrisby.com which will assist them in identify career options that suit them and also inform them of the qualification routes necessary to achieve these.

During Year 9, students will make informed, career driven, choices about their future based on the pathway that they are in. They will be supported by the leadership team to choose from:

  • Academic Pathway:
Triple Science, History or Geography, plus one from Citizenship, Health and Social Care, BTEC Sport, Business, or Art.

  • Vocational Pathway:
History or Geography, plus one from Health and Social Care, BTEC Sport, Business, or Art.

  • Alternative Pathway:
History or Geography, AQA Unit Award Scheme, Functional Skills Maths, and Step Up qualifications.

Students will study these subjects until the end of Year 11 alongside the core curriculum of English Language, English Literature, Maths, Science, PE, PSHE and Religious Studies.

Please take the opportunity to discuss the option choices with your child. To further guide and support the options process we have included an options booklet which gives greater detail about the subjects above as well as subject videos from our teachers about why and what you will study at GCSE.
