Meridian High School endeavours to offer all our students an outstanding curriculum that equips them to meet the challenges they will face in the future, so maximising their life chances.
We strive to ensure our students leave Meridian High School as confident and independent individuals who are able to adapt to the many challenges in adult life.
Our students are at the heart of our family and what we do and as such our planning of the curriculum focuses entirely on the needs of our students and how best to support them through close work with our primary schools, colleges and other outside agencies to en sure all transitions are as smooth as possible.
We provide a balanced pastoral structure to give our students the confidence to develop their PSHE skills and knowledge so that they are able to demonstrate teamwork and leadership skills.
Our curriculum should allow for our students to achieve high standards and make good/excellent progress with their subjects.
Key Stage 3 (Year 7-8)
Our students remain within their House tutor group throughout Year 7 and 8 within lessons. We believe the curriculum we deliver with a strong focus on teaching from the top enables all of our students to progress at each 6-week cycle assessment point throughout the year. This approach to grouping also helps with the transition from primary to secondary for our students.
Our students study the following areas for KS3, Mathematics, English, Science, Computer Science, Spanish, History, Geography, Music, Art, Technology, Textiles, Food technology, Media, Drama, Dance and Physical Education we believe this will give them a broad curriculum which is balanced and gives them a good knowledge of subjects prior to choosing their transition GCSE subjects in the latter part of Year 8.
Key Stage 4 (Year 9-11)
All students at Meridian High School start KS4 in year 9 giving them maximum time to study towards their examination subjects.
We have a broad curriculum which offers our students a range of academic subjects to study to prepare them for college, A-Levels, Apprenticeships and future working life.
Alongside studying our core curriculum in Mathematics, English, Science and Physical education our students will study at least one of the Ebacc subjects, History, Geography, Spanish and Triple Science.
