Restaurant

We are very proud of the catering service that Meridian High School offers its students. We are one of three schools within the Borough of Croydon to be awarded Food Flagship status. This means that we are committed to raising the standards of the food provision and food education that we deliver to our students and the local community, as well as helping to promote healthier food choices and lifestyle. Our catering team work hard to maintain exceptionally high standards in both the food offered and the facilities provided for an enjoyable dining experience. We have a 5 star hygiene rating in the dining hall and we also offer a delicious range of food served each day in our dining hall with themed menus so that there is something available to cater to everyone's tastes.

At a recent year 9 parents evening, our parents had the opportunity to sample some of the menu that is available to our students each day in the school dining hall. They gave us the following feedback:

  • 100% of parents involved told us that they were either satisfied or very satisfied about the quality of school meals provided at school
  • 100% of parents involved deemed the school meals available to be healthy or very healthy
  • 100% of parents involved said the food they tasted on the evening they would deem to be either healthy or very healthy
  • 79% of parents involved said the food they tasted on the evening was either good or excellent

We are continually looking at ways we can develop the catering provision that we offer to the students and we are always willing to take suggestions from our students and parents alike to improve the already excellent service that we deliver.

Meridian High School now also has its very own Edible Playground. 20 students applied and were selected to take on the role of Food Ambassadors for the school and they are involved in the planting, growing and decision-making relating to the Edible Playground. We have already been planting a range of herbs, salad leaves, fruit and vegetables and we have recently started harvesting the produce to provide the school catering team with ingredients to use in the school's food service at break and lunch times. Going forward, our food ambassadors will be teaching other groups of students about the growing process and encouraging others to get involved with the project as well. The students will be looking to sell our organically grown produce to local businesses and the community as well as continue to provide ingredients that can be used by our own school caterers.

As a result of our student's work in the Edible Playground combined with the service that our school caterers are providing in the school dining hall, we are now working towards our Bronze Food for Life Award.

Students can buy food at breakfast, morning break, and lunch time. To view Meridian High School's menu and price lists please see the attached documents.

The School’s catering is now completely cashless. Parents/Carers can make payments and top up their child’s account via the ParentPay website or in cash at local stores where you see the PayPoint logo.

If you add money to the basket in error, you are able to withdraw this by going to the Parent Account Tab and press the Withdraw button at the bottom of the screen.

To apply for the £2.30 a day free meals allowance, please just phone the school office with parent or carer’s date of birth and National Insurance number, and we will check for you whether you are eligible.

Free School Meals

To complete an online application please click here.

If you could like help with an application, please contact Miss Laurie Casson on 020 3943 1328.

Can you help us invest an extra £935 in your child’s education every year?

Schools get extra funding for every child registered as eligible for a free school meal if their parents receive benefits. We use this money for activities including art therapy, booster classes, educational trips and after school clubs.

Even if you do not want your child to receive a free meal, don't let your school miss out on this important extra funding that will benefit your child.

From December 2015 entitlement to Free School Meals will be processed as part of Housing Benefit/Council Tax Support claims by the Benefits Service. Free School Meals are a statutory benefit. Applying for a free school meal could raise up to an extra £1320* per annum for six years for your child’s school (funded by central government). This can help to fund valuable teaching and learning support for your school (and is still paid to the school even if your entitlement ceases).

Free school meals are available to children of families who are in receipt of:

  • Income Support (I S)
  • Income Based Jobseekers Allowance (IBJSA)
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Support under part V1 of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • The guarantee element of State Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit, provided they are not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual income (as assessed by HM Revenue & Customs) that does not exceed £16,190
  • Working Tax Credit run-on-paid for four weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
  • Universal Credit

If you currently receive housing or council tax support through Croydon Council, you do not need to complete an application. Your child’s entitlement to free school meals will be processed by the housing benefit section and the school.

Children who receive Income Support or Income Based Job Seekers Allowance in their own right are also entitled to receive Free School Meals.

Please note:

If you receive Working Tax Credit only, your child is NOT eligible.

*£1320 Pupils in year groups reception to year 6 recorded as Ever 6 FSM

If you believe you are entitled please complete the attached form and return to the school or complete an online application.
