TfL Car-Free Day

On Friday 22nd September, staff and students at Meridian High School took part in the first ever TfL and STARS Car-Free day. The aim of the day was to encourage our school family to travel more actively and reduce car emissions and congestion around the community by walking, scooting, cycling and taking public transport to and from school instead of using a car. To promote the day, the whole of year 7 received an assembly about the importance of active travel. The Year 8 and 9 Youth Travel Ambassadors also sent a letter home to parents/carers asking them to encourage their children to get active on Car-Free day.

A hands-up survey was conducted before and on the day and results show that there was an 11% increase in students travelling more actively to school on Car-Free day than their normal methods of travel. Our staff also put in a great amount of effort, with Mr Richardson walking his entire 4 mile journey to school!

Thank you to all the staff and students who made Car-Free day such a success!
