DofE Expedition

On the weekend of the 15th-16th July, 2017, six year nine pupils became the first Meridian High School pupils to successfully complete the expedition section of their Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Their qualifying expedition began with an ascent of St Martha's Hill, near Guildford and after two days of excellent (and since their practice expedition, much improved) navigation, they finished with a walk up Leith Hill (the second highest hill in South East England).

Over the two days, the group walked over 15 miles, carrying rucksacks weighing approximately 15 kilogrammes. They should be incredibly proud of what they achieved, as we are.

Chloe Lee summed the experience up, when she reached the top of Leith Hill, from where she could take in the sights from the Wembley Arch to the Shard and all around the South of England; she exclaimed, for all to hear, that she was "so happy!". Many of the others shared her sense of achievement and clearly felt very pleased with themselves, as well as tired!

A group of five year 10 pupils also joined the expedition successfully completing their practice expedition, so we look forward to hearing more from them in the future, as they will soon be taking on their qualifying expedition. These pupils also performed excellently, showing brilliant skills in navigation and team work.
