Personal Development

Personal development at Meridian High School is part of a two phase plan. Phase one of the implementation is a direct response to Covid-19 and the impact the pandemic had on learners which focuses on oracy and reading. During tutor time our structured approach uses a platform called Votes4Schools which encourages students to participate in the topical debate of current issues. Through the sharing of the votes and views our students voices are heard and valued through a range of local and national organisations.

The second phase of the personal development strategy is creating memorable learning experiences for students. From September 2022 all year groups will have a deliberately designed memorable experience supporting their personal growth and providing opportunities to positively contribute to our school, community and society. Underpinned by our core values, students develop knowledge of themselves: empowering them to be authentic, risk aware, and able to make informed choices throughout their adult life.

ME 1

At MHS our aim is to provide students with the opportunities to access powerful knowledge and powerful experiences such as trips, visits, workshops and visiting talks, so that they learn to make their mark on the world. Our curricular approach to Personal Development aims to illustrate to students how multiple aspects of their school experience combine to provide them with a solid foundation for personal growth during their time with us.

Trips1

At KS3 we provide students witha timetabled personal development lesson which supports their talents, strengths and interests. Students were part of the process in designing the personal development lessons. Students will experience 3 different personal development lessons throughout a year.
