Youth Travel Ambassadors Trip To London

On Tuesday 7th March, our Youth Travel Ambassadors (YTA's) went on a trip to London to take part in a multi-school event called 'Campaign Junction'. This is an event organised by TfL, where students from schools around London are invited to present a pitch about their ideas for a road safety campaign which they would like to launch at their own schools. At the end of the event, a panel of judges then provide each school with feedback and make a decision on whether to allocate £250 of funding to support them with their campaigns.

The campaign that our YTA's at Meridian High School have developed is centred around improving the traffic congestion that we experience every day outside our main school entrance and encouraging more active and safe pedestrian travel to and from school. They delivered a confident and very professional pitch to a group of TfL and London Borough Council employees (as well as students and staff from other schools) and were commended by the judging panel for their clear, coherent and informative presentation. I am also pleased to report that they were awarded the whole £250!

Not only this, but a member of Croydon Borough Council was also on the panel of judges and he agreed to match the sum of money that they had already been awarded, meaning the students were given £500 in total to help them get their campaign up and running.

We are incredibly proud of our students and all the hard work they have put in to this project so far. The YTA's are aiming to launch their campaign in the summer and we are really looking forward to seeing how their campaign develops over the coming weeks.
