Cooking with Ruth Quinlan

On Friday 22nd June, our Edible Playground Ambassadors in Years 7 and 9 welcomed Chef Ruth Quinlan to our school for an afternoon of Healthy Eating Workshops. This was not only a great opportunity for the Ambassadors to show off their knowledge of the organic edible plants and vegetables they have been growing since the start of the year, but also to learn some very useful skills about how they can bring what they have been growing to the dinner table!

The Ambassadors worked together in small groups to prepare three delicious, healthy and nutritious vegetable dishes that we were all able to enjoy together at the end of the afternoon. It was a great event and we are very grateful to Chef Ruth for giving up her time to come and teach us these hugely valuable skills!

Meridian High School takes pride in being a Healthy Eating School and our wonderful team of student Ambassadors has worked tirelessly since the beginning of the year to prepare, plant, water, weed and maintain our beautiful Edible Playground. We are currently growing a wide variety of fruit, vegetables and salads and the recent hot weather is ensuring that this year’s will be a bumper harvest for MHS!

To top off what has already been a great year for the garden, on the 5th of July, the Ambassadors will be gathering in a selection of the best crops from the garden and taking these to be sold at the Croydon Food Market in the Clocktower. The food market is a wonderful event to which a number of local Primary and Secondary schools attend. It is open to the public and we would love to welcome as many MHS parents, friends and families, so please do come along between 1pm and 2.30pm.
