Dance is a powerful and expressive subject which encourages students to develop their creative, physical, emotional and intellectual capacity. Dance is currently taught in KS3 through the ever expanding PE curriculum at Meridian High School. Students will be taught how to Choreograph, Perform and appraise their own work and that of their peers. They will be challenged to think critically about Dance as an Art form. They will discover how movement can be used to communicate and express different ideas and concepts.  Throughout KS3 they will work in various dance styles which will enable them to make wise choices about their own choreography for examination in KS4.

The new GCSE Dance curriculum enables students to study six professional works which acknowledge aspects of the repertoire of dance that can be seen in the United Kingdom today. They will study them practically whilst also learning to the write about them critically. This knowledge will then feed in to their performance work for their final examinations. Throughout KS4 they will work on solos and group dance pieces to give them a good knowledge of the demands placed upon a professional dancer.
