Sociology is the study of the world you live in.  We ask why things are the way they are.  Why are some people rich and others poor?  Who is really in charge?   Why do we make children go to school?  These are some of the questions that Sociology tries to answer.

The Sociology GCSE course balances knowledge, understanding and literacy skills to enable students to become effective learners and to provide the solid foundation of academic skills that they need on their continuing educational journey.  Students develop the opportunity to communicate clearly, accurately & effectively in a written form.

Students will learn to use a wide range of sociological vocabulary, alongside correct spelling, grammar & punctuation.

Students will be encouraged to pay attention to current events in order to deepen their sociological understanding of the world they live in.

Students will sit two 1 ½ hour exams at the end of year 11. In each exam the students will be required to produce 2 pieces of extended writing and one 500-word essay.
