KS4
At Key Stage 4, students will study English Language and English Literature GCSEs. These qualifications comprise of a range of varied and engaging units, each developing key English and personal skills. English Literature at GCSE level further develops students’ understanding of the literary canon, exposing them to increasingly rich and engaging poetry, prose and drama from a range of literary periods. Texts are carefully selected to support students in their social, moral, and spiritual development, consistently enabling students to reflect on their own beliefs and values through the study of literature.
English language incorporates the study of fiction and non- fiction between the 19th-21st centuries, along with the development of students’ own imaginative writing skills. English Language offers students the opportunity to explore the power of a range of writing styles and forms, whilst also encouraging students to develop their own creativity through the written form. The English Curriculum encourages curiosity and debate, whilst also being designed to support all students in becoming effective communicators, critical thinkers, and creative writers.
