Geography
KS3
The national curriculum for geography aims to ensure that all pupils:
Develop knowledge of the location of globally significant places – both on land and at sea – including their defining physical and human characteristics. Understand the processes that give rise to key physical and human geographical features of the world, how these are interdependent and how they vary from place to place and change over time. Are competent in the geographical skills needed to:
Collect, analyse and communicate with a range of data gathered through experiences of fieldwork that deepen their understanding of geographical processes. Interpret a range of sources of geographical information, including maps, diagrams, globes, aerial photographs and Geographical Information Systems (GIS).
Communicate geographical information in a variety of ways, including through maps, numerical and quantitative skills and writing at length.
In year 7 Geography is studied as a part of the humanities ‘Amazing Curriculum’. In year 8 we lay a foundation for the transition to GCSE in year 9.

Studying geography at GCSE gives students the opportunity to understand more about the world, the challenges it faces and their place within it. The GCSE we have chosen to teach (Edexcel Geography B) will deepen you child’s understanding of geographical processes, illuminate the impact of change and of the complex people-environment interactions, highlight the dynamic links and interrelationships between places and environments from local to global scales, and develop students’ competence in using a wide range of geographical investigative skills and approaches. Geography enables young people to become globally and environmentally informed and thoughtful, enquiring citizens.
